Lake House Media Academy
With the noble aim of nurturing journalists and media experts who will play a pivotal role in the future advancement of Sri Lanka’s media industry, the Lake House Media Academy was established on September 26, 2022, featuring the participation of the Honourable Minister of Media, Dr. Bandula Gunawardena. Beyond providing the essential academic knowledge and comprehension needed for journalism, Lake House’s hands-on media training sets it apart and is truly distinctive. Apart from providing the university-level education and insights necessary for journalism, Lake House’s hands-on media training is exceptional.
The Lake House Media Academy holds the distinction of being the first media academy established by a newspaper agency in Sri Lanka. Prof. Harendra Kariyawasam, who currently serves as the Chairman of Lake House Institute, assumed the role of the inaugural course director at the Lakehouse Media Academy, following the vision of Mr. Anusha Palpita, Secretary of the Ministry of Media and the former Chairman of Lake House.
The Lake House Media Academy offers a range of programs, including certificate and advanced certificate courses, diploma courses, and one-day workshops focused on the media sector. During its first year, the Media Academy effectively introduced a variety of courses and workshops. These educational events are led by prominent figures in the media industry, experienced journalists, university professors, and the professional experts in the field of media.
The Lake House Media Academy’s course offerings are overseen by a committee comprising seasoned journalists and senior managers with a wealth of knowledge and experience. This organizing committee collaborates closely with the Lake House Institute, tailoring their efforts to the individual talents and capabilities of each student. The faculty members instructing Lake House’s media courses are a diverse group, including senior journalists, university lecturers and professors, and potential artists with extensive expertise.
